New Details On AS I LAY DYING Frontman Tim Lambesis switches lawyer

A few weeks back the world was shocked when As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis was arrested for attempting to hire a hitman to murder his wife. The supposed hit man ended up being an undercover cop. Lambesis has been locked up ever since, Tim plead not guilty to one count of solicitation of murder. Today, new information has been released on how Lambesis was actually taken down by the police.

An anonymous witness of the arrest told the San Diego reader exactly how it went down:

An employee of the Oceanside Barnes & Noble who did not want to be named recounted the May 7 bookstore bust of As I Lay Dying lead singer Tim Lambesis this way: “It was about 2 p.m. My buddy was outside the store doing face-painting and the cops told him that he needed to stop immediately and go inside. Tim [Lambesis] was there with a friend just browsing. I saw one special task-force cop, two regular officers, and two undercover officers. They just pushed everyone aside and handcuffed him. It all happened so fast. It seemed like they were planning it out for a long time.”

It was originally reported that Lambesis was arrested after soliciting an undercover cop. Could this “cop” be the “friend” in the story above?

Lambesis’ next court date is currently scheduled for June 10th. At the bail hearing last week, Lambesis was accompanied by a new laywer, Thomas Warwick after originally being represented by Anthony Salerno. No word on why Salerno was let go, as he initially saved Lambesis from a potential life sentence. Salerno, in an interview alleged Lambesis was being set up as Lambesis’ brother-in-law is a sheriff deputy. Lambesis new lawyer, Warwick claimed at last week’s bail hearing that steroid use clouded Lambesis’ judgement.

Round 1 - AMA Lucas Oil Pro Motocross - Hangtown Results

This is one of the most anticipated national motocross races in a long time.  There are so many top riders that are injury free and looking to set pace through the rest of the outdoor season.

Chad Reed, Ryan Villopoto is back, Dungey is looking to repeat his dominant performance.  Stewart sat out the last couple of supercross races to prepare.  Kenny Roczen, Marvin Musquin, Eli Tomac, Wil Hahn and Blake Baggett.  It looks like Justin Barcia and Eli Tomac both had the fastest lap times, and will get the first gate pick.

Riders will go 30 minutes plus 2 laps.  Lap taps are just about 2 minutes, so each moto could go 35 minutes.  That’s a long time to go 100%

450 Moto 1:  It’s number 7 James Stewart with the holeshot.  It doesn’t take long for Ryan Villopoto to make the pass on Stewart and after 1 lap Villopoto leads followed by Stewart, Dungey, Josh Grant, Trey Canard, Mike Alessi, Andrew Short, Dean Wilson and Justin Barcia.

Lap 5 Ryan Dungey makes the pass on Stewart and moves into 2nd.  Villopoto is blazing his path and is 7 seconds in front of Dungey.

Halfway through RV has a 12 seconds in front of Dungey while Dungey is 17 seconds ahead of Stewart.  Stewart is followed by Trey Canard, Justin Barcia and a strong ride by Malcolm Stewart.

Malcolm Stewart pulls off on the final lap with what looks like a bike problem.  Ryan Villopoto wins moto 1 of the 2013 outdoor supercross championship series.

250 Moto 1:  2012 Series champion Blake Baggett grabs the holeshot.  Marvin Musquin is running 2nd and after lap 2 Musquin makes the move on Baggett and into the lead.

Musquin continues to lead followed by Baggett, Eli Tomac and Ken Roczen.  Tomac and Roczen are rolling and make the pass on Baggett.

Lap 5 shows Roczen passing Tomac and then Musquin.  Next lap Tomac passes Musquin and into 2nd.

Lap 8 Baggett has found a 2nd wind and pulls up to Musquin making the pass.  At the halfway point Roczen leads Tomac by a comfortable 7 seconds.

2 laps left and Baggett closes in on Tomac and for the next 2 laps these guys go back and forth.  But as the checkered flag flies Tomac holds off Bagget and Ken Roczen wins 250 moto 1 and sets the tone for the 250 series.

450 Moto 2:  James Stewart getting the holeshot again followed by Ryan Dungey and Ryan Villopoto.  They are followed by Trey Canard and Michael Burn, welcome back!

As the moto progresses Dungey is all over Stewart.  They are putting on a show going back and forth with each other.  They are followed closely by RV, Canard, Alessi, Ryan Sipes, Barcia and Short.

Dungey tries to make a pass on Stewart and makes a mistake allowing Villopoto to get by and the RV makes quick work of Stewart.  A few turns later Dungey makes the pass on Stewart.

Halfway through the race and Villopoto leads Dungey followed by Stewart, Canard, Alessi, Barcia, Sipes, Peick, Short and Rattray.  Chad Reed has pulled off the track and will not finish.

After 17 laps Ryan Villopoto wins moto 2 and the first round of the 2013 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocorss.  Dungey and Stewart finish in the respective positions.  Basically Villopoto dominated and set a pretty high bar for the rest of the fields.

250 Moto 2:  Zach Bell grabs the holeshot.  But it takes less than a lap for Ken Roczen to move into the lead, and Blake Baggett to move into 2nd.  He is followed by Osborne, Musquin and Wharton.

After 3 laps Roczen still leads Baggett and Osborne is still in 3rd.  Musquin and Osborne get tangled up but both riders stay up.

After 5 laps Roczen has a 5 second lead over Baggett with Tomac in 3rd.  Jason Anderson is riding well in 4th place with Wharton and Justin Boggle running in 5th and 6th.

Roczen continues to pull away opening up a 7 second lead.   The top 4 riders remain the same with Kyle Cunningham moving into the top 5.

As the checkered flag waves Ken Roczen wins moto 2 and round 1 of the 2013 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross series.  Roczen continued where he left off in Supercross and has set the bar for the rest of the series.

At the conclusion of the As I Lay Dying frontman’s bail hearing earlier today, the judge lowered his bail to $2 million, which Lambesis’ attorney claims is still too expensive for Lambesis.

Lambesis plead not guilty to one count of solicitation of murder after attempting to hire a hit man to murder his wife.

UT San Diego filed a report from inside the courtroom reporting that the defense requested the bail be lowered to $250,000 but Judge David Berry would only agree to lower it to $2 million.

During his appeal, Warwick also claimed that Lambesis began using steroids, which clouded his judgement:

Thomas Warwick, the musician’s lawyer, said his client had gotten into body building and eating healthy, and later began taking nutritional supplements as a paid product spokesman. At some point, he also began taking steroids, he said.

“His thought processes were devastatingly affected by his steroid use,” Warwick said.

Another shocking revelation came from the prosecution who revealed the cost of alleged hit on Lambesis’ wife was priced at $20,000 and that Lambesis was “very willing to pay that.”

This just keeps getting crazier and crazier! Stay tuned for more updates

First Ever Skateboard 1080 Landed on X Games Megaramp

Talk about making an impression.  This just in from X Games Barcelona 2013, Sixteen year old skateboarder Mitchie Brusco landed a 1080 on his skateboard on the MegaRamp.

It amazes me that he didn’t win Gold but he did make X Games history by being the third skateboarder to land a 1080 (that’s 3 full rotations), and the first ever to land it on the MegaRamp.  His friends 13 year old Tom Schaar and 16 year old Jono Schwan are the only others to land the trick in competition.  All this at 16 years old, I think he has a bright future.  I mean the kid looks like he’s 10.

Bob Burnquist who won gold was sure to praise Brusco stating “I just can’t believe this kid did a 1080, like, first try,”.  It’s true that you can see from the video he lands it with very little effort.

Tony Hawk was commentator and the video shows his reaction from the booth, it’s safe to say he was stunned.  It’s been quite a while now, but I seem to remember the first 900 landed in competition by Tony Hawk, though I think it was a little tougher for him on the half pipe.

2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Season Preview

2012 Lucal Oil Pro Motocross champions Ryan Dungey and Blake Bagget lead 2 stacked fields into the 2013 Motocross Championship.  Lets take a look at how the fields stack up as we head into Hangtown.

450 MX:

2012 Champion Ryan Dungey still has to be considered the favorite.  After winning 10 of 12 races in 2012 he showed his dominance in the outdoor circuit.  Which we all know seperates the pretenders from the elite when it comes to endurance.  30 minutes plus 2 laps is unbelievably hard.  Then you have to do it twice, during the hottest time of the year.

The biggest difference for Dungey this year will be the return of 2011 Motocross Champion and 2013 Supercross Champion Ryan Villopoto.  RV missed 2012 outdoors because of a knee injury and he has yet to lose a championship that he has finished.

Another X factor is James Stewart, who boasted 1 of Dungey’s 2 losses in 2012, and he looked really fast doing it.  But as always he has yet to show a consitent string of races.  Stewart did sit out the last few rounds of Supercross to prepare for the outdoor season.  An interesting fact that may only interest me is that Stewart and Villopoto have never faced off in an outdoor series.

Unfortunately we won’t see the newly resurgent Davi Millsaps as he sits out due to leg surgery.  But Honda rider Justin Barcia had a moto win in 2012 and rode really well during the Supercross season.  Trey Canard who has been riddled with injuries is always a threat as he rides really well outdoor.  Another rider returning to the outdoor field is Chad Reed.  Reed had what he would consider a disappointing Supercross Series in 2013 but he always rides really well outdoor.

Mike Alessi was the runner-up in 2012, and if he can work on his endurance he should do well because he is always leading the race after the start.  Josh Grant is healthy as was getting his speed back in supercross, and joining the already deeply talented field will be Dean Wilson.  This is going to be an extremely exiting 450 class.

:: UPDATE ::

It looks as if Christian Craig will be out for the outdoor season after a crash in the final round of the supercross series will require him to have surgery on his wrist.  It looks like Malcolm Stewart will fill in for him and race along side his big brother James for the 2013 motocross championship.

250 MX:

Blake Baggett had what he would consider a disappointing Supercross season, but I find it hard to think he won’t be a contender.  But his job will be much more difficult this year with 2013 Supercross champion Ken Roczen and runner-up Marvin Musquin.  Both riders are multi time world motocross champions out of Germany and France respectively.

Baggett will also have to content with runner up Eli Tomac who look sharp in the supercross season and has to be a favorite to win it all.    Lets not forget veteran talents like Martin Davalos, Nicco Izzi, Blake Wharton and Jason Anderson who can make things interesting.

Honestly this class is a little harder to call because so many riders are so close in speed and really don’t have a template for their outdoor speed over a long Motocross season.

The one good thing about the 250 class is that every year there is a new comer, or rookie that impresses and puts pressure on the veterans.  There is always a kid in each hometown that can fly.  But this year rookie amateur sensation Adam Cianciarulo will line up at hangtown, along with Justin Hill and surprise newcomer Joey Savatgy.

One thing is for certain there wont be a lack of drama in both classes through the 2013 Lucas Oil Motocross Championship.  Looking forward to it.

Memorial Celebration Announced For Slayer Guitarist Jeff Hanneman

The band just released all the details surrounding the memorial:

The Jeff Hanneman Memorial Celebration will take place on Thursday, May 23 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles from 3:30 – 7:30PM. Hanneman passed away on May 2 at the age of 49.

The Memorial Celebration will be free and open to the public on a first-come, first-in basis (subject to venue capacity). All ages are welcome, and paid parking will be available around the venue.

Jeff Hanneman helped shape Slayer’s uncompromising thrash-metal sound as well as an entire genre of music. His riffs of fury and punk-rock attitude were heard in the songs he wrote, including Slayer classics “Angel of Death,” “Raining Blood,” “South of Heaven” and “War Ensemble.” Hanneman co-founded Slayer with fellow-guitarist Kerry King, bassist Tom Araya and drummer Dave Lombardo in Huntington Park, CA in 1981. For more than 30 years, Hanneman was the band member who stayed out of the spotlight, rarely did interviews, amassed an impressive collection of World War II memorabilia, was with his wife Kathy for nearly three decades, shut off his phone and went incommunicado when he was home from tour, did not want to be on the road too late into any December as Christmas was his favorite holiday, and, from the time he was about 12 years old, woke up every, single day with one thing on his mind: playing the guitar.

It was once suggested to Slayer that if they would write “just one mainstream song that could get on the radio,” they would likely sell millions of records and change the commercial course of their career, similar to what had happened to Metallica with 1993′s “Enter Sandman.” Jeff was the first to draw a line of integrity in the sand, replying, “We’re going to make a Slayer record. If you can get it on the radio, fine, if not, then fuck it.”

RIP JEFF you will be missed

Tim Lambesis' Defense Attorney Claims AS I LAY DYING Frontman Was Set Up

It’s been over a week since the shocking arrest of Tim Lambesis, who allegedly was attempting to hire a hitman to murder his wife. Lambesis was arraigned last Thursday, May 9th, and plead not guilty to one count of solicitation of murder. Later in the day, courtroom video footage revealed the proescution’s case against Lambesis, which includes audio of him telling an undercop cop posing as a hitman that he wanted his wife dead.

Over the weekend, Lambesis’ defense attoryney, Anthony Salerno revealed Lambesis’ defense in a new interview.

Salerno spoke to Artisan News Service and revealed that his client was originally going to be charged with conspiracy to commit murder which holds a maximum of a life sentencebut Salerno got the charge down to solitication of murder which has a maximum penalty of nine years in prison.

At the time of the interview, Salerno had yet to see see any of the prosecution’s evidence but was claiming that a police informant set Lambesis up stating:

“I would anticipate myself asking for quite a bit of additional discovery, particularly on this person I strongly suspect is a snitch and is an informant for the police and was really creating this whole scenario and sort of setting Tim up. I believe there’s a good probability he may be a police informant. And that information is only available internally with the police department, or in this case the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, and through the D.A.’s office, and that’s something I’m gonna have to explore as well.”

He later went as far as to say that Tim’s estranged wife’s brother, who is a sheriff in the department had something to do with this alleged setup:

“There’s one other element to this, too, which is… I don’t want to start to make accusations on this one unless I have some more information, but I will point out that Tim’s wife’s brother, I understand, is a San Diego Sheriff’s deputy, and I think I would be remiss if I didn’t fully explore that, ’cause that is a litte bit… it’s at the bare minimum very coincidental, and it may be more than that.”

It’s going to be a long road. The prosecution has a tape with audio in which Lambesis confirmed to the hitman/informant that he wanted his wife gone after handing the “hitman” an envelope with one thousand dollars in cash, Meggan’s address, photos of his wife, security gate codes instructions on how and when to enter the home.

Overboard Surfer Lost at Sea Survives 27 Hours Treading Water

Crazy story out of Indonesia.  A South African Surfer Brett Archibald endured a nightmarish 27 hours after falling off the charter boat he was on at night.  He stated at one point he had given up hope tried to end it.  I mean the guy didn’t have a life jacket or any floating device and had to tread water for that long.

If happened in the Mentawai Strait off Indonesia, Archibald, 50, was traveling aboard the Naga Laut from Padang to the Mentawai Islands which houses a popular surf spot.  Apparently Archibald was dealing with sea sickness  when he went to the rail to vomit when he became light headed and fell overboard.

Archibald later quoted “…he’d been extremely seasick and may have passed out on the deck of the Naga Laut while being seasick overboard when he woke up already in the sea behind the boat, which continued away from him,”.  He also stated he had no memory of falling overboard and thought boat members were splashing him in the face with water when he realized it was the wake from the boat.  Nobody on board knew he fell over because it was dark and everyone was sleeping.

Brett said during his 27 hour ordeal he was close to drowning at least 8 times.  He had been stung multiple times by jelly fish, fish were picking at his legs and body, and seagulls tried plucking out his eyes.  At one point Archibald said he thought he would never be found and decided to end it.  He went under water and tried to swallow but his mouth was so dry he couldn’t.

Brett later stated “So then I pulled myself together, said, ‘OK, we need to keep going here,’ and kept swimming and treading water.”

He then attempted to swim to some nearby islands but his efforts were for null with a heavy current.

According to facebook Archibald was last seen around 4:30 a.m. and nobody realized he was missing until around 8 the next morning.  At which point the boat immediately turned around to retrace it’s steps and then called the Indonesian Federal Search and Rescue.

It wasn’t until Thursday just before noon that The Barrenjoey with Captain Doris found Archibald 12 miles off the coast of Sipora which was about 10 miles from where he went overboard.

He was later reunited with his group on the Naga Laut and was ready to finish the 8 days left on his trip.

That is a strong 50 year old man.

Third Shark Attack Victim at Reunion Island in Last Two Years

A French couple on their honeymoon at Reunion Island will unfortunately never be the same.  The husband was fatally attacked by a shark just offshore at Reunion Island while his wife was nearby on the beach.

The popular surfing spot at Brisants de Saint-Gilles, which is located on the west of shore of the Island is where the attack occurred.  The island is currently owned by France and is located in the Indian Ocean just east of the island of Madagascar.

Lifeguards on sure cautiously pulled the 36 year old surfer to shore.  Witnesses state the surfer was charged at least twice by the shark.  Unfortunately he had lost so much blood by the time he was pulled to sure he went into cardiac arrest and could not be revived.

The Agence France-Presse reports that the unidentified honeymoon surfer was bitten on the arm and thigh while his wife visibly shaken was being treated for shock.

A fatal shark attack last summer was 1 of 2 during that time occurring only days apart from one another.

Last summer two shark attacks, one of them resulting in a fatality, occurred just days apart at Reunion Island, which is located in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar.

After the attacks in the summer of 2012 surfers were calling for vast marine reserves in the area to close as they are blamed for an increase in shark population. According to Sky Mall local surfers and swimmers are critical of the local government for not doing enough to protect those who use the waters.

No shark species was named and there are currently several studies underway involving sharks in the general area.

Paraplegic Moto X Rider Doug Henry Does Backflip

Motocross legend Doug Henry, now paralyzed, pulls off a killer backflip at the Travis Pastrana compound.

Pastrana – an X Games gold medalist, Supercross Champion, Nitro Circus Movie producer – knows a few things about doing tricks on a motorcycle.  So when motocross legend Doug Henry approached him about wanting to do a backflip into his foam pit Travis was hesitant.

Travis actually told him he didn’t think he would be able to because the cage that is constructed about Henry to keep him safe on the bike, doesn’t allow him to lean far enough back.

Doug Henry was previously a motocross / supercross front runner.  Throughout his career he’s had some pretty horrific crashes.  Breaking his back on the now called Henry Hill at Budds Creek.  Breaking both arms again at Budds Creek while being the first rider to race a 4 stroke.  Henry is now paralyzed from the waste down from a broken back suffered in a Supermoto race in 2007.

Luckily someone was there with a camera to catch the whole thing.  The first attempt ended with Henry upside down in the foam pit.  The second attempt he time it perfectly with the throttle and was able to rotate the whole way around

Henry said on his facebook page that he couldn’t leave Pastrana’s house without trying the backflip.

“I asked Travis about a backflip and much to my surprise, he said I would not be able to make a full rotation because of my cage, being strapped to the bike, and my inability to shift my weight far enough back,” he wrote.

“Dude, seriously? Way to prove me wrong, man,” Pastrana told his “hero motocross legend, He just did a backflip without leaning back!”

As I Lay Dyings Tim Lambesis Arrested In Alleged Plot To Kill Wife

As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis was arrested yesterday, May 7th after trying to hire a hit man to murder his ex-wife. The hit man ended up being an undercover cop. Moments ago, his band mates broke their silence on the issue:

“To our fans,

As we post this, the legal process is taking its course and we have no more information than you do. There are many unanswered questions, and the situation will become clearer in the coming days and weeks. We’ll keep you informed as best we can.

Our thoughts right now are with Tim, his family, and with everyone else affected by this terrible situation — and with our fans, whom we love and draw strength from.

Thank you for understanding, and as always, for your support of As I Lay Dying”

The statement does not come as a surprise. I don’t think he would have shared his plans with anyone, even his band mates.  Lambesis will be arraigned tomorrow.

Monster Energy Supercross Coming to New Jersey in 2014

Round 17 – Monster Energy – Las Vegas Supercross 2013

I can honestly say this was the most entertaining race of the Supercross season.  Both 250 main events came down to the final lap to determine the winner of the east and west coast.  Even though Ryan Villopoto has already wrapped up the title, there was still an important battle for 2nd in the points between Ryan Dungey and Davi Millsaps.

Pre Race Vibe

Coming into the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross Finale, all the pressure was on 4 riders - Ken Roczen, Wil Hahn, Marvin Musquin  and Eli Tomac.  Here’s how it breaks down:  In the 250 West SX series Roczen leads Tomac by 5 points and in the 250 East SX series Wil Hahn leads Musquin by 5 points.  The night will start with the lites 15 lap main events.

Just like you would expect it’s hot and sunny in Las Vegas on race day.  The track is the most unique of all the Supercross tracks because it goes outside of the stadium for a long fast sweeper and hit 5th gear wide open coming back into the stadium.  Track conditions are unique as well because the dirt is always so dry they are constantly having to water it making the track slippery.

Marvin Musquin Las Vegas Supercross 2013

Marvin Musquin Las Vegas Supercross 2013

No 250 main event qualifiers here, it goes right to the 250 East 15 lap Main Event.  The start is outside the stadium making the first time really exciting.  Gavin Faith grabs the early lead with Wil Hahn and Marvin Musquin 6th.

Tyler Bowers jumps into the lead on lap 3 with Hahn moving up to 3rd.  Musquin has moved right behind Hahn in 4th.

Hahn makes the pass on Faith on lap 6 with Musquin right behind him.

After 10 laps Bowers is leading by quite a bit and the 3 time arena cross champion is headed toward his first every AMA 250 Supercross main event win.  Hahn is still running 2nd with Musquin 1.5 seconds behind him.

Lap 12 – Musquin catches and moves passed Wil Hahn.  Bowers is still leading by 5 seconds over Musquin and Hahn.   If Musquin passes Bowers and Hahn finishes 3rd Musquin will win the championship, if it stays the way they are, Hahn will win.

As the checkered flag flies Tyler Bowers win his first 250 SX Main!  Wil Hahn wins the 250 East SX Series Championship by tie breaker over Marvin Musquin who will settle for 2nd on his Red bull KTM.

Will Hahn Las Vegas Supercross 2013

Now its time for the 250 West SX 15 Lap Main Event.  As the gate drops Martin Davalos is your early race leader.  After 2 laps Davalos continues to lead with Roczen in third and Tomac back in seventh.

Eli Tomac Las Vegas Supercross 2013

Eli Tomac Las Vegas Supercross 2013

5 Lap mark – Martin Davalos leading while Roczen moves into second and Cunningham in 3rd.  Tomac has moved up a couple of spots to 5th, but he will need to start making moves soon.

8 Lap mark – Tomac worked his way by Ryan Sipes in 4th and now makes a pass on Kyle Cunningham to move into 3rd.  Davalos, Roczen and Tomac are running 1,2,3.

Lap 10 – Tomac closes in and makes the pass on Rozcen for 2nd place.  For Tomac to win he needs to finish 2 spots ahead of Roczen.

Tomac is starting to to pull away from Roczen and catching Davalos quickly.  On Lap 12 Tomac makes the pass on Martin Davalos for the lead.  If the race ends this way Tomac would win the championship.

With 1 lap left Ken Roczen makes the pass as Davalos makes a mistake in the rhythm section.  As the checkered flag flies Eli Tomac dominates the Las Vegas Supercross Main Event, but he is trumped by Ken Roczen wins 250 West Coast Supercross Championship.

Ken Roczen Las Vegas Supercross 2013

Ken Roczen Las Vegas Supercross 2013

Now that the lites are done it’s time to move to the 450′s.  They will race a normal routine with 2 qualifying heats.

450 Heat 1  – 8 lap event.  Jake Weimer takes the early lead followed by Ryan Dungey and Justin Brayton.

7 laps in Dungey passes Weimer, but Weimer passes him right back.  Dungey eventually makes it stick.

Ryan Dungey win heat 1, followed by Weimer, Brayton and Barcia.

450 Heat 2 - 2013 Supercross Champ Ryan Villopoto takes the holeshot followed by Davi Millsaps and Trey Canard.

Halfway through and Villopoto is leading Millsaps by 2 seconds followed by Canard and Chad Reed.

Ryan Villopoto wins heat 2.  He is followed by Millsaps, Canard and Weston Peick with a good ride.

Now it’s time for the 250 East / West Coast Shoot-out.  Finally we get to see east and west coast riders duke it out.  Wil Hahn broke his hand in practice and is sitting this one out to heal and get ready for Hangtown.

Ken Roczen flies out of the gate and into the lead followed by his teammate Marvin Musquin.

After 5 laps – Roczen still leading and Cunningham riding his greatest race of the season makes the pass for 2nd over Musquin.  Davalos, Blake Wharton, Cole Seely, Ryan Sipes, Malcolm Stewart, Jason Anderson, Tyla Rattray and Tomac running in 13th.

As the checkered flag waves Ken Roczen wins the 250 East / West Coast Shoot out.  He certainly has set the tone for the night.

Now its time for the 450 SX Main Event.  They will go 20 laps.  Jake Weimer grabs the holeshot with Chad Reed, Andrew Short, Ryan Villopoto and Ryan Dungey following.

Lap 5 – Villopoto is leading Dungey followed by Jake Weimer, Millsaps and Reed.  RV and Dungey are starting to pull away from pack.

Millsaps is charging hard trying to wrap up second place in the points over Dungey as he moves into 3rd.

Lap 10 – Villopoto and Dungey has pulled 15 seconds from the rest of the pack.  Millsaps is running a solid third followed by Weimer and Barcia.  Its a shame we won’t get to see Davi Millsaps in the outdoor as he is scheduled to get surgery on his leg to fix a poorly healed femur.

Ryan Villopoto Las Vegas Supercross 2013

Ryan Villopoto Las Vegas Supercross 2013

As the checkered flag waves Ryan Villopoto win the Las Vegas Supercross Main Event.  It’s also his 10th win of the season.  This guy is unstoppable.  Dungey finishes 2nd and Millsaps 3rd, which will give him number 2 overall for the season, 30 points behind RV.

Deftones Bassist Chi Cheng Passes Away at Age 42

The Deftones bassist Chi Cheng has passed away at the age of 42. Cheng was involved in a car accident in November of 2008 that had him in a coma for three years and has left him in a paralyzed since. His family released the following statement:

“Our dearest Family,

This is the hardest thing to write to you. Your love and heart and devotion to Chi was unconditional and amazing. I know that you will always remember him as a giant of a man on stage with a heart for every one of you. He was taken to the emergency room and at 3 am today his heart just suddenly stopped. He left this world with me singing songs he liked in his ear.

He fought the good fight. You stood by him sending love daily. He knew that he was very loved and never alone. I will write more later. I will be going through the oneloveforchi and any other information may not be reliable. If you have any stories or mesages to share please send them to the onelove site. Please hold Mae and Ming and the siblings and especially Chi’s son, Gabriel in your prayers. It is so hard to let go.

With great love and “Much Respect!” Mom J (and Chi)”

Our deepest condolences to Chi’s friends and family.

Zombie Vacation Announces Launch of Website and Deadicated Clothing Line

After about 5 months of hard work and anticipation ZVClothing.com is finally ready to launch.

We’ve gone through wrong orders, returned clothing, misprints, copyright issues and countless site bug issues. Needless to say we are extremely excited to launch.

Our first line is our DEADICATED line and it contains 5 shirts, a hoodie, a fitted hat and a tank top. We’ve also included our partner with an AM I Epic Tee and tank. We have zombie mesh hat and shorts to give you a glimpse of whats to come.

Here is a look at some of what we have to offer.

First is the Deadicated Western. We knew that not everybody likes intricate so we went simple.

Next we have the Holler Front Tee. This was a favorite saying of ours because we tried so hard to be ghetto, but we were quite the opposite.

Then there is the Dead Bold Tee with the green background. This shirt is tight and we wear it at all of our shows. Big print is in and this is as big as it gets.

We have the Deadicated Splah Tee which is basically deadicated thrown on a wall with red paint. We had this logo created and thought it would be cool on a shirt, so here it is.

That brings us to our favorite T-shirt and that is the Deadicated Wrestler Tee. It has zombified our favorite wrestlers, Sting, Ultimate Warrior and Hulk. This one rocks Brother!

We also carry the zombie wrestler as a tank top which is sweet as well

Lastly, this is my favorite shirt, is the Time to Mosh Tee. We were at a show and someone yelled this, and it seems to be getting more popular. So we figured we make a shirt for people to wear to a show and everyone knows what they are there to do. Oh and we added some color to it too.

Our first attempt at a sweatshirt came in the form of the Hardcore Zombie Hoodie. This is a gauged out, brim up zombie hoodie that is very comfortable and durable with the deadicated splash on the front

We have a couple of hats as well. The first is the Deadicated Flexfit Hat. This hat is very durable, I wear it every day. It has a sewn on front and back logo, it comes in 2 sizes. We also carry the Zombie Trucker hat for a cheap hat to get sweaty and beat up at shows or practice.

The last item in our first line is the Zombie Outline Shorts. They are a nice pair of mesh gym shorts with the Zombie Vacation logo outlined in red. These shorts don’t have pockets so they are perfect for shows because you wont lose your fn keys.

Additionally we decided to help out a couple of friends and throw in the Am I Epic Tee and Am I Epic Tank. Just like all of our shirts, these are great quality Next Level apparel, durable shirts.

So thats it. We are hoping these take off and people really like them. Weve invested a lot of time and money into this, so if these dont do well then it will be hard for us to roll out our next line. Any support we can get is appreciated and we look forward to sponsoring some bands, athletes and tours in the near future.

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's Adam D Corpsegrinder Shannon Lucas Project Updates

So it been rumbling around for a while that Killswtich Engage’s guitarist Adam D., Cannibal Corpse vocalist, George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher and former Black Dahlia Murder drummer Shannon Lucas are starting a super group. Adam D. commented about the project in the new issue of Decibal magazine:

“When [Killswitch] toured with Cannibal Corpse and Black Dahlia Murder on the Mayhem [Festival], I was just hanging out with George one night, and I was like, ‘Dude, if I wrote you a bunch of songs to sing over, would you do it?’ And he was like, ‘Fuck yeah, man!’ So, I’ve written about eight songs. I’ve played them for George and Shannon, and they’re both down. So, we’re just looking for a time get into the studio.”

These are new songs:

“They were written specifically for [Corpsegrinder]. He’s one of my favorite singers of all time, and I thought there wouldn’t be any harm in at least asking him. Once he said yes, it was like, ‘Alright —let’s go!’”

Cant wait to hear this! With Killswitch touring on their new album it may take a while. Stay tuned!!

SLAYER's Tom Araya Talks About The Status of Jeff Hanneman

SLAYER singer Tom Araya spoke with Andrew Haug from AndrewHaug.com – Australia’s Only Dedicated 24/7 Rock-Metal Station – at the Melbourne stop of Soundwave 2013. He was asked about the status of guitarist Jeff Hanneman, who was hospitalized in early 2011 with necrotizing fasciitis (likely rooted in a spider bite) and continues to this day in recovery-mode. The band has since enlisted EXODUS’ Gary Holt for live shows.

“Even though he’s not in the picture, he’s still part of the picture,” Araya says. “It’s taken him a lot longer than he even thought. He can play and he can work out the material but… It’s like everything else, depending on how you are health-wise as a person, that affects how you heal. Even though you haven’t seen him live, he’s still part of the band.”

Good to know! We hope to see Jeff soon!

METALLICA KILL EM ALL SET TO RE-RELEASE!!! Almost

I almost crapped my pants when I read an article that said Metallica will be re-recording Kill Em All. The article was on metalunderground.com. Heres how it read…

Metallica has announced that the second release on its recently formed label, Blackened Recordings, will be a re-recording of “Kill Em All.”

The band is said to be considering naming the re-recording “Metal Up Your Ass,” the debut’s original working title, but no final decision has been made.

Under provision of a renegotiated joint venture agreement with the Warner Music Group in 1994, all of masters of Metallica’s albums reverted back to the band as of November 30th, 2012.

Addressing the reasoning for re-recording the band’s classic debut instead of simply remastering it, drummer Lars Ulrich had this to say:

“The songs on Kill Em All are vintage Metallica, but will benefit so much more from today’s studio and mixing technology. So we decided it would be better to re-record them entirely than release a simple remaster from those old analog recordings. I can’t wait to get in the studio and do these songs justice and give them a polished, modern sound.”

A producer has not yet been chosen for the “Kill Em All” recording sessions.

Blackened Recordings will handle all marketing and promotion duties for the re-release of “Kill Em All,” which will be manufactured and distributed by Rhino Entertainment in North America and licensed to the Universal Music Group internationally. A release is tentatively being targeted for late 2013.

The re-recording of “Kill Em All” will be the label’s second release. The first release from Blackened Recordings was the live DVD, “Quebec Magnetic,” which was released on December 10th, 2012.

Well…it was an April fools joke..man that was cruel..Although the more I think about it..Mustaine..Burton..maybe its better left as is. Until next time..

EXODUS DROPS OFF MARYLAND DEATHFEST

With all the Exodus drama going on lately I’m sure some of you are wondering what the sudden cancellation was all about. Well, the band released a statement today in regards to the situation:

“We have recently observed a whirlwind of speculation, conspiracy theories, and just plain ole dumb-assed comments on the internet regarding Exodus’ future and that of Gary Holt’s commitment to this band. The following is an attempt to shed some light on actual facts, as well as trying to clear the air.

“The reason we cancelled our appearance at this years Maryland Death Fest was, in fact, due to Gary’s commitment to his sudden and seriously ill father. Actually, just days prior to the start of the Metal Alliance tour, we were making arrangements to have someone fill in for Gary due to his unknown status. As things worked out, his father was able to recover to a somewhat stable condition, yet he is still not ‘out of the woods’ and continues to be a closely monitored.

“This was obviously a private and personal matter that didn’t warrant public knowledge, but it seems the press release from MDF and then the interview given by Gary about not quitting Exodus was just a random coincidence and we felt it necessary to inform people of the real story. Exodus is not disbanding!

“Gary will continue to perform on the current Metal Alliance tour, as well as splitting his time between Exodus & Slayer in the future. The band (with Holt) will be appearing at this year’s Hell & Heaven Fest in Guadalajara Mexico as advertised on May 19th. After which, Gary will return home to support and care for his family.

“Our apologies to the MDF staff, as well as to the Exodus fans, who were eager to see us, and we hope everyone understands that family and loved ones comes first.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with gary and his family.

BORN OF OSIRIS Set To Record New Album

Looks like the fellas in Born of Osiris are gearing up to hit the studio for a album! Here is what their guitarist Lee Mckinney had to say:

We’re excited to announce we’ll be entering the studio April 1st to begin the recording process for this record. We will be tracking with Nick Sampson (Asking Alexandria), and Joey Sturgis (The Devil Wears Prada, Emmure) will be handling the mixing process. We are very excited to be working with these guys.

As for the album’s content, we’re gonna be doing 6 string and 7 string songs on the same recording for the first time ever. Aside from that, we’ve been more focused for this record than any of the previous. We’ve had 2+ years to write, critique, adjust and learn these songs, which is just something we haven’t had in the past with our intense touring schedule. Like the last album (The Discovery), we’ve been living and writing this album together and it’s made for the best, most focused Born of Osiris album to date.

What makes this release even more special to us is the fact that we’ll be releasing it on the one and only Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour this summer. We get to share the stage with some of the biggest and most talented names in metal. There’s no other better way to possibly start this record cycle. We will see you all soon.”

This should be pretty awesome! Be sure to check out Born of Osiris on this summers Mayhem Festival! See you there!

WANT TO GO ON SUMMER VACATION WITH LAMB OF GOD?

Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman dies at age 49

Jeff Hanneman, a founding member of the legendary thrash metal band Slayer, died earlier today of liver failure. He was 49 years old.

Heidi Robinson-Fitzgerald, the group’s longtime publicist, confirmed the news in a statement which reads:

“Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. He was 49. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.”

Hanneman’s unique lead/rhythm guitar style, which complemented that of fellow lead/rhythm player Kerry King, was an indelible part of the Slayer sound. Hanneman composed the music for many of the band’s fan favorites, songs such as Angel Of Death, South of Heaven, War Ensemble, Raining Blood and Seasons In The Abyss.

Our condolences go out to the Hanneman family.

Round 16 – Monster Energy - Salt Lake City Supercross 2013

Salt Lake City Supercross 2013 was by far the most entertaining supercross race of the season.  With Ken Roczen failing to quality for the Main Event, Eli Tomac had a chance to take the points lead going into the final round, but his nerves got the best of him.  Ryan Villopoto joins an elite list of names to 3 peat Supercross championships but had pressure the entire race from Davi Millsaps who went through the whoops faster than anyone I’ve seen.

It is sunny and dry in Utah with most riders wearing hand guards because of the rocky dirt. The start is very short with a 180 degree first turn, looking for a lot of pileups today.  In the 250 West Qualifying, it’s Kenny Roczen quickest at 48.48 seconds. Martin Davalos next at 48.89, Jason Anderson 49 even, Zach Osborne 49.11, Ryan Sipes 49.44, Cole Seely 49.53, Malcolm Stewart 49.59, Christian Craig 49.84, Kyle Cunningham 50 seconds even, and Eli Tomac 50.1 out of 46 riders.

The 450 Qualifying shows Davi Millsaps having the quickest lap at 47.46 seconds. Ryan Dungey is next – 47.73 seconds. Ryan Villopoto third – 48.47 seconds. Trey Canard – 48.52. Justin Barcia – 48.56, Justin Brayton 48.67, Josh Hill 48.85, Broc Tickle 48.99, Ben Lamay 49.01, Chad Reed tenth out of 40 riders at 49.26.

If Villopoto wins today he will join a list of only 3 other riders that have won 3 consecutive supercross championships.  Bob Hannah did it from 1977 – 1979, Jeremy McGrath has done it twice, 1993 – 1996 and 1998 – 2000, and Ricky Carmichael won three consecutive titles, 2001 – 2003.

250 West Heat 1 – The lites heats will go 6 laps. Martin Davalos has the holeshot, and he’s followed by Zach Osborne. Eli Tomac has crashed in the first corner, but comes around at the end of the first lap in about tenth.

At the halfway point, it’s Davalos leading, Osborne is second, and Joey Savatgy running third. Tomac has moved up to fifth!

Martin Davalos wins heat 1. Zach Osborne follows second. Joey Savatgy takes third. And Eli Tomac takes fifth.

250 West Heat 2 – Jason Anderson takes the early lead, and then in the second corner – Ken Roczen goes down. And now Malcolm Stewart (number 32 KTM) has taken over the lead …

Just past the halfway point – it’s Malcolm Stewart flying leading the race, Jason Anderson is running second, and Tyla Rattray is third. Ken Roczen is 17th … and then he pulls of the track! Roczen tells the media he’s saving his strength for the LCQ.  Could be a bad move as anything can happen, especially with this start.

Malcolm Stewart (younger brother of James Stewart) is going to win his first ever race in AMA Supercross! Malcolm Stewart wins this heat race! Jason Anderson takes second, Tyla Rattray third. Ken Roczen will have to go to the LCQ …

450 Heat 1 – Ryan Dungey and his RedBull KTM has the early lead followed by Trey Canard pulling into second …

At the end of of the first lap, it’s Dungey leading, then Canard, Andrew Short, Broc Tickle, Chad Reed, Vince Friese, Weston Peick, and Justin Brayton.

Halfway through, it’s Dungey leading, followed by Canard second, Short third, then Broc Tickle and Weston Peick.  Chad Reed has bike issues, it looks like a rock is stuck in his brake lever, he’s fading and eventually pulls off.

Ryan Dungey wins heat 1! Second goes to Trey Canard. Third is Andrew Short. Then Tickle, Peick, and Brayton. Reedy finishes 19th – he’ll go to the LCQ too.

450 SX Heat 2 – Ryan Villopoto leads Davi Millsaps on lap one. And one lap in – Millsaps passes Villopoto to take the lead! Third and fourth are Josh Hill and Justin Barcia.

Millsaps is starting to pull away from Villopoto. Millsaps has put down the quickest lap of the night – 46.6 seconds.

Davi Millsaps wins heat 2 followed by Ryan Villopoto. Strategy by Villopoto to save some energy for the main event?. Josh Hill takes third, and Justin Barcia finishes fourth.

The 450 Main Event is probably going to come down once again to the top three in the series, Ryan Villopoto, Davi Millsaps, and Ryan Dungey.

250 LCQ – Kenny Roczen, who leads the 250 West Points chase, goes down in the first corner with a lot of other riders. The leader is Topher Ingalls.

After 2 quick laps Roczen has made his way to 3rd place but needs 1 more to get into the main.

One lap to go – Travis Baker has the lead. Ingalls is second. Roczen is about five seconds back Ingalls.

As the checkered flag waves – Ken Roczen fails to make the 250 Main Event! Eli Tomac has a chance to take over the points lead after being 20 points down coming into the race.  But he’s going to have to ride harder than he did in his heat.  The whoops have been his Achilles heel in his heat race.

450 LCQ – Chad Reed does what a two-time AMA Supercross Series (2004, 2008) does – win. Cody Gilmore takes second.

250 West Main Event – 15 laps, here we go.  How will Eli Tomac respond with Roczen out of the race? If Tomac finishes third in the main, they will be tied on points going into Vegas. If Tomac gets second, he’ll have a two point advantage over Roczen. If Tomac wins, he’ll have a five point advantage over Roczen.

The early leader is Zach Osborne (338 Honda). Eli Tomac is running second. Jason Anderson is third.

On Lap Jason Anderson passes Osborne and into the lead. Cole Seely passes Tomac, and then Osborne!

Jason Anderson continues leading, with Cole Seely second. Zach Osborne is third, and Eli Tomac is fourth.

Tomac is struggling.  Hes making a lot of mental mistakes and continuing to fall back. Martin Davalos passes Tomac.  At the end of five laps – it’s Anderson, Seely, Davalos, Osborne, Tomac, and Kyle Cunningham.

Ken Roczen, even missing this event, could still go into Vegas with the points lead. Tomac is continuing to struggle, and is running lap times two seconds slower than Jason Anderson.

At the ten lap point –Jason Anderson continues to lead and could win his first ever main event.  Then Cole Seely is second. Martin Davalos third. Malcolm Stewart has moved to fourth! Then Zach Osborne, Ryan Sipes, Kyle Cunningham, Christian Craig, and Eli Tomac ninth.

The checkered flag falls – and Jason Anderson wins his first ever 250 Supercross Main Event! Cole Seely takes second. Martin Davalos third. Eli Tomac  finds a late surge and works his way up to sixth. Ken Roczen still has the points lead going into the finale in Las Vegas next Saturday night!

450 Supercross Main Event – 20 laps, and we’re off with Ryan Dungey getting the holeshot – but by the third corner, Ryan Villopto has moved into the lead on a block pass! And by the end of the first lap, Davi Millsaps is third.

Millsaps and Dungey have to get by Villopoto in order for the championship to come down to the finale in Vegas. But Villopoto is leading and pulling away.

Millsaps make the pass on Dungey.

Five laps complete – Villopoto leads Millsaps by 2.5 seconds. Dungey is two seconds behind Millsaps. Millsaps continues to make up so much time through a tough whoop section.

The ten lap point – halfway – lap riders are starting to become a factor, even running into Chad Reed!

It was a dramatic final ten laps – Villopoto leading, Millsaps chasing, Dungey right behind him.  Millsaps is right on his rear tire……

But Ryan Villopoto win it! He wins the race, clinches the 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series Championship – his third straight!

Villopoto said after the race “Winning the championship is unreal. It’s amazing, especially to make it three in a row. We started out the season rough – I can’t thank everyone enough, especially my wife, my trainer, my mom and dad, my entire team.”
